As many of you know we are building a house- directly behind our existing house. It has been a long time coming, and I wasn't sure we were EVER actually going to build it. It's been a pipe dream for so long...held over my head in the midst of heated arguments, (" I was ready to start building the house, until you did THIS!", etc). Every year when we do our taxes the argument starts again. My reasoning every year for the last 28 years has been, "OK...you knew I was no good with money when you met me, YET, you STILL married me! so get over it! MOVE ON!" So we started in November. Everyone said there would be BIG fights on the horizon, that we would NEVER agree, that we would both want different things...but so far we haven't had one disagreement, UNTIL YESTERDAY!
My husband came home from the Houston Stockshow primed and ready for a fight. I could see it in his eyes when he walked in the door. For whatever reason, I could do NOTHING right. I bought a new shower curtain- take it back, he didn't approve the choice first. I picked up 2 stainless steel trashcans, so he could choose which one he wanted- no good, take them back! (never mind we had discussed buying one the week before!) To top it off, yesterday I was discussing re-framing some vintage signs (Dr Pepper, Remington, International Tractor), and was told HE had to APPROVE anything I wanted to put in the new house, so I wouldn't look like we lived in Luckenbach. Well, La-Dee-Da! I wasn't aware he came from such a delicate upbringing that he was offended by the decor in our house. I wasn't planning on changing anything- just re-doing some things to make it look NICER! It's not like I have neon beer signs everywhere, old license plates for a floor, old Willie posters nailed to the walls, and picnic tables with bottle-caps covering the tops! Needless to say, the silent treatment in is full mode, with no signs of ending anytime soon. Thank God I go back to school tomorrow!
